Earlier this month Birchbox opened their first pop-up store on Carnaby Street and it is a blogger’s paradise. Neon signs, marble print, a balloon arch, it’s just begging to be Instagrammed. These guys know what they’re doing.
The store is packed full of cult beauty products that you can find on the Birchbox online store from brands including Spectrum, Laura Mercier and Benefit. The main draw, for me anyway, is the chance to ‘create your own Birchbox’ which I happily obliged to like the good little beauty consumer I am.
You can pick 5 mini products from the pick’n’mix section. Two makeup, two skincare/body and one hair. The box costs £15, a little pricier than the usual £10 subscription box but it’s great for a one off, especially as you get to select the products yourself. You know there is not going to be some random blue eyeshadow you are never going to use in the mix.
After much deliberation I picked up the below:
Spectrum Collections Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge
I’ve not got on to well applying my foundation with sponges in the past but I thought I would give this one a go and see if I could master it. It’s cheaper than a Beauty Blender and hopefully just as good.
Eyeko Black Magic Mascara
I was debating between this and the Benefit Ready, Set, Brow for a while but I decided I would probably get more use out of a mascara. The wand is curved so you can get right in to the corners of your lashes. It has a nice bristle brush, none of this platic nonsense and the size is perfect for travelling or taking out with you in the night for a quick top up.
Caudalie Instant Detox Mask
I’ve tried a couple of products from Caudalie in the past and they’ve all been great so I was keen to pick up this mask. It promises clear skin of impurities and clogged pores which is something I can very much on board with. I haven’t tried it yet but it looks similar to Origins clay masks.
Rituals The Ritual of Ayurveda Foaming Shower Gel
I’ve never tried anything from Rituals before and again I thought this would be really handy for travelling. The scent is described as ‘sweet almond and Indian rose’. As long as it smells good I’m in.
Umberto Gianni No More Messy Break Ups Split Ends Cream
There should be a law against unnecessarily long product names. As a hair bleach and heated tools fanatic I’m always looking for any way I can restore my damaged hair and reduce split ends. This was basically calling my name. You smooth is through dampy hair before styling and supposedly see less breakage instantly. Sounds like a miracle worker to me so I’ve got high hopes. It’s a nice size tube as well, no poxy sample size here.
If you’re near Carnaby Street before the end of January definitely pop in, even if just to pick yourself up a few mini’s for your travels. If you’re not nearby then check out the Birchbox website to find everything I picked up. They have lots of Black Friday deals going on over there at the moment too!
